Spent a night at alegre, bussaco boutique and loved it. The ambiance was charming, with antique features and beautiful views of luso. The breakfast spread was good, made our strolls even better.

The room was spacious with a clean private bathroom and a tv. It had a comfortable bed and a patio providing a lovely view. The outdoor pool area was very nice, with sun loungers perfect. The breakfast offered a good mix.

The hotel and communal areas are lovely in a delightfully traditional Portuguese country house sort of way, and smelled of beeswax and polish! However our room, though very reasonably priced, was rather disappointing and really needed upgrading - very old bathroom fittings, TV etc, and the pool area, bar and restaurant were all dark and closed when we arrived just before 9pm. However the Alegre was wonderfully placed to walk to Bucaco and the enchanting palace in the middle of the ancient forest, and breakfast was nice too.
While we love character places, our bedroom really needed updating, and it would have been nice to be able to sit by a lit pool on a warm summer's evening. Also, the white plastic pool furniture looked a bit grey and dirty in the daylight, though it may just have been old.
